OUR EFFORTS TO RECYCLE ARE PAYING OFF!

Bekins and Classic Stereo Recycle

Bekins and Classic Stereo understand that a companies our size have the potential to make a negative impact on our environment. That is why we have made it such a priority to reuse or recycle over 90% of all waste that go through our Coopersville Service Center.

REUSE

One of our favorite ways to help the environment and our community is to donate our items for new and creative uses. Here are a few recent recreations.

Bekins recently donated large appliance boxes to Coopersville Public Schools. These boxes nurtured the imagination of local preschool children as they turned them into a firetruck!

Coopersville Reformed Church was happy to have some of our cardboard boxes for their Vacation Bible School. The staff turned them into fun structures that lined the hallways of the church.

RECYCLE

For all items we are unable to reuse, we recycle! Our Coopersville Service and Distribution Center was specifically designed to be able to house the storage space, cardboard balers and other machinery necessary to recycle cardboard, cores, plastic ties and film, styrofoam and old appliances.

This is not a money making effort for us but we truly believe in the cause and enjoy seeing how large of an impact our recyclables are making.

Our recycling efforts from January through June of 2017 have helped save:

  • 107,170 gallons of water
  • 94,218 KWH of energy
  • 1,209 gallons of oil
  • 919 pounds of air pollution effluents
  • 260 trees
  • 51 cubic yards of landfill space

Below is a full report of what Bekins and Classic Stereo have recycled and the resources saved for the first half of 2017.

COMPANIES REUSING WASTE: CHARIOT RACES

Companies Reusing Waste Feature Image

Classic Stereo and Bekins work hard to recycle waste each day. We also try to set an example for companies reusing waste.

Our community has created many new uses for boxes that used to store big appliances and electronics. Yet, Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven found a new way to think outside the box.  They even thought inside the box a little too.

once a box – now a chariot

UpStreet Children’s Ministries presented its Kids Camp at the end of June. They really sold out for this year’s theme too. They immersed the children in Rome at the time of Paul and the Underground Church.

The camp featured:

  • togas
  • tie dye
  • an ancient Roman marketplace
  • an example of an underground church
  • live actors playing the roles of Paul and a Roman soldier
  • and chariot races

WATCH: DONATED BOXES TURN INTO ROMAN CHARIOTS

That’s when they worked with Bekins and Classic Stereo. Our Warehouse Manager, Brian, donated boxes for the Kids Camp. Rich used his years of experience and talent to fit the largest boxes through each doorway.

The staff at UpStreet Children’s Ministries cutout a small portion and let their imaginations run wild.

One child sat in a medium sized box, while one, two or more classmates grabbed a plastic band and pull them along the grassy field.

They even tried sitting a few children in the bigger boxes and asking a group of children to pull them the same way.

it is important to be companies reusing waste

We hope people continue to contact us with new ideas to reuse waste. We take pride in our efforts to recycle, but re-use works even better.

Our employees work hard every day to reduce our carbon footprint. We even built our Coopersville Service Center with recycling in mind. It includes enough storage space, cardboard balers and other machinery for us to recycle over 90 percent of our waste including:

  • cardboard
  • cores
  • plastic ties
  • film
  • styrofoam
  • old appliances
  • and more

It requires extra space and money, but we believe in the cause. Our efforts in 2016 helped save:

  • 2,330 gallons of oil
  • 159,880 gallons of water
  • 162,185 Kilowatt Hours of energy
  • 1,370 pounds of air pollution effluents
  • 85 cubic yards of landfill space
  • 388 trees

COMPANIES THAT GIVE BACK: DONATING BOXES

Companies that give back deliver boxes

As companies that give back to our community, we jumped at a recent chance to help a local Vacation Bible School.

Our Warehouse Manager donated items to the Coopersville Reformed Church. We would merely recycle these items. Instead, staff at their Vacation Bible School turned cardboard boxes into structures for play.

VBS AT COOPERSVILLE REFORMED CHURCH

The Vacation Bible School at Coopersville Reformed Church offers a week of fun for children as young as four years old. The oldest students in the program, the fifth graders, co-lead the group in learning to follow Jesus and shine HIS light through the community.

More than 130 students showed up for the first day today, and the school runs through Friday morning. Items donated by Bekins and Classic Stereo line many of the hallways and rooms at the school.

“It’s amazing to be able to have (Bekins and Classic Stereo’s) help,” Bible Adventure Leader Samantha Krepel said. “We are so excited to have the recyclables.”

The church recently remodeled a portion of the school, so the cardboard structures allow the children to play games along the wall without touching the the renovations.
